Walsall Street: Historical Photographs
This is one of a series of five image galleries relating to the heritage of Wednesbury high street. Walsall Street has been central to the entertainment of Wednesbury residents. The cinema, The Bell pub and The Hippodrome all occupied this area of the high street. These (and even the long since gone Bray’s Fish and Chip shop) hold poignant memories for those who grew up in Wednesbury.
These galleries display heritage images that relate to Wednesbury high street and the Conservation Zone, demonstrating how the area has changed over the past 150 years. A large majority of these images are in circulation on various digital platforms; however they have been brought together here and organised into galleries by artist researcher, Jo Löki. Images have been shared by Chris N Alan Bayley, Ian Bott, Colin New Hyde, Ken Roe, Mike Blackmore, Teresa Davies, Sandra Reid, Bev Parker, West Lothian Council, Leodis, Wednesbury in Work, The History of Wednesbury, Barclays. A reference document of online sources can be found at the end.
